Q&A: Tying Up Hair at Night (Hair Wrapping)
By nwscents on Jul 22, 2009 | In Questions and Answers about Black Hair Care | Send feedback »
Question: do you have any tips for tying up you hair at night? I wrap mine and it seems like one side is not as full as the other.
Answer:You might want to try switching the direction in which you wrap your hair. If you wrap it from left to right, maybe try the opposite direction, from right to left.
Q & A: Clipping the ends of natural hair

Question: How do i clip the ends of natural hair?
Answer: If your hair is long enough, separate it into a few sections (6 to 10), braid each section (not a cornrow, just a braid from scalp to the ends of the hair), and use high quality hair scissors to clip the ends of each braid.
If you hair is not long enough for braids, separate your hair into sections. Use a plastic comb on a section. With one hand, hold the comb, and insert the comb into the section of hair. Gently pull up the comb until only the ends of the hair are sticking out of the teeth of the comb. With the other comb use high quality hair scissors to clip the ends of the hair. Repeat for each section. You may want to have someone help you with this second method.

Question: In your book, Natural Black Hair, in the section about doing wet-sets with rollers, are you combing each section before you wrap it on the roller, or just smoothing it over the roller uncombed? Please explain. Also, have you or your family had success with wet setting longer natural hair around 10-12 in? I've tried it before and it tends to turn out frizzy. Thanks.
Answer: Yes, you should use a comb to detangle your hair fully to do the wet set. It is the action of combing your hair, smoothing it with your fingers as you are combing it, and pulling it gently as you put the curler in it which will help you get a smoother curl. Your hair will dry the way you put it on the curlers so you want it to be as smooth as possible. Use the conditioner as a setting lotion to help smooth your hair. The two things that will make your hair frizzy are the products you are using and if your hair isn't thoroughly dry when you take it out of the curlers.
Make sure your hair has dried completely before you take out the curlers because the smallest bit of dampness will cause frizziness. You can use a bonnet dryer to speed up the drying process.
The longer your hair gets, the harder it is to do a wet set with curlers because you need bigger curlers. My sister does flat twists and uses curlers on the ends of her hair (see pages 36 to 38 in the book)
Q&A: Hair Reverts After Pressing

Question: I live on the east coast of florida with medium to high humidity. Is there any thing special that I can do to keep my hair from reverting back to natural after pressing it? Pressing last less than 48 hours.
Answer: Hi. It is tougher to keep hair straight in high humidity. What I recommend is that you try using a good quality flat iron instead of a pressing comb (if you aren't using one already) because a flat iron will help reduce moisture absorption by helping the cuticles on the shafts of your hair lay down flat. I also recommend that you use moisturizing hair products (like the ones we sell at http://www.nwscents.com) . If the products that you are using on your hair are drying, they will dry out your hair, causing your hair to want to absorb moisture, which will make it more difficult for you to achieve the results that you want.
